The Hammer, Rose and Comb were part of a test speech therapists gave me after my stroke. Jigsaw puzzle pieces and scrabble tiles were used as a metaphor about aphasia affecting my life. The poem describes this and the ongoing war in my brain.

About the Artist

Rochelle Anderson

Rochelle M. Anderson In 2007, I suffered a left sided hemorrhagic stroke which caused right sided weakness and aphasia. Although I no longer can work, I have kept active with friends and multiple support groups. I have submitted Crop Art to the Minnesota State Fair, Robbinsdale Schools and an aphasia art show in Eau Claire, WI. I submitted a mixed media piece to Courage Center Art of Possibilities in 2022 and to the National Aphasia Association's "Night of Aphasia Arts". I have written poetry for the last 2 years with multiple groups across the United States and have several works of poetry published in a chapbook in 2022, and more in another chapbook anthology to be published in 2023.
