About the Artist

Gwendolyn Stangel

Gwendolyn Stangel is a Minneapolis-based artist and a graduate of the University of Minnesota. Her diverse artistic background includes knitting, needlepoint, sculpture, welding, photography, and painting. In 2023, Gwendolyn experienced a stroke that led to a seven-week hospitalization and ongoing rehabilitation for aphasia, apraxia, and right-side impairment at Courage Kenny in Golden Valley. Now working with her left hand, she continues to create photographs and collages that serve as both a creative outlet and a vital form of communication. Through her work, she expresses what words cannot, using her artistic vision as a powerful tool in her recovery and reconnection with the world.
