About the Artist
Amy Bao
I am a multidisciplinary designer with a background in visual art and architecture. I have a personal passion for painting accessible, interactive, and playful public art, and use my health as a source of inspiration. In 2019, I was hospitalized at Bellevue in NYC. I remember two rooms fondly — the media room where I made new unexpected friends, and the bedroom where I rested. This painting, “A Beautiful View”, is an architectural abstraction overlaying my vivid perspectives of those two rooms. The title is a play on the name of Bellevue Hospital as it translates from French, and a tongue-in-cheek allusion to the media room TV which was my main “window” to the world.
