About the Artist
Amy Unger
Currently, two aspects of image-making intrigue me: collage and illusion. While I find collaging from magazines relaxing, collaging photographs and words is akin to mixing paint colors for me. In the past decade much of my work has focused on drawing the viewer in to study an image and, hopefully, to become aware of their response to the image & word(s). At times it is impossible to have an element of illusion or it is not what I am seeking. Other times it is part of the impact that I hope the viewer can tune into and catch their own response. While some might say my work is provocative, I prefer to think of it, and hold as a goal, that the work is evocative – calling the viewer to be self-aware of reaction and response. I am from the Twin Cities, live with a TBI among other disabilities, and have a family member in the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
