Sarah Spiezio
My name is Sarah Spiezio, I am an autistic artist and disabled human. I live with borderline personality disorder and a dissociative disorder, I am also narcoleptic and am diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. I obtained my first degree in Art Therapy, which is where I began to inform my artistic process. An autistic trait I experience is Alexithymia; the inability to recognize emotions. Often I don't understand my internal emotions or what needs to come through when I start to create. It is through applying layer after layer of paint, and various changes in form, that a concept will start to appear that resonates within me. I utilize alternative ways of painting, combining different materials, and using various application tactics; this enables me to feel the process in a tangible way. My creations are inspired from my raw emotional and physical experiences living with these disabilities.
