Graupel forms when super cool water droplets coat snowflakes high in the atmosphere. A fragile opaque white rime is created and falls to the earth. Graupel is sometimes referred to as soft hail.
About the Artist
Delora Fiers
I craft sculptural objects and relief images, primarily using handmade paper pulp, drawn from my deep appreciation for its tactile qualities and versatility. Inspired by the tranquility of nature and impactful personal experiences, my work encapsulates the essence of seasonal shifts and life's intimate narratives. These creations explore the nuanced dialogue between a container, such as a bowl, and its contents, which might be an image, a memory, or an emotion, initiating a conversation with the viewer about the interplay between form and its inherent stories. My practice emphasizes sustainability, utilizing renewable plant fibers like Cattail and Iris leaves, along with recycled acid-free paper, to underline the importance of ecological balance. Incorporating found or repurposed items adds layers of meaning and detail to my work. This artistic pursuit aims to highlight the need for harmony in our surroundings, proposing that art reflecting balance can foster hope. By pushing the boundaries of imagination, my art celebrates life's vibrancy, the act of creation, and the joy of sharing what I am passionate about.
