Christine Severson
Christine Severson is a mixed media and fiber artist whose creative life emerged from profound change and resilience. Growing up in small‑town Iowa, art was not encouraged early on, and creating felt out of reach until adulthood reshaped everything. While working as a registered nurse in a spinal cord injury unit, Christine sustained a serious injury that resulted in spinal nerve damage, chronic pain, and limited mobility. After her nursing career ended, working with her hands became both discovery and necessity. Creating from a semi‑reclining position, Christine chooses lightweight materials such as macramé, wire, pine needles, glass beads, driftwood, and crystals. Artmaking became a lifeline, offering positive mental energy, self‑pride, and a way to cope with pain and limitation. Christine describes creating as the gift of that pain. Each piece reflects care, quiet intention, and the belief that beauty and purpose can still grow from altered paths.
