About the Artist
Ja-Wen Yu
I grew up in an uncaring and abusive environment. This pattern repeated throughout my adult life. Painting and make believe were my escape. Before my understanding of complex post-traumatic stress disorder(C-PTSD), I was suicidal and did not understand why the suppressed painful memories were resurfacing. The chronic pain clinic and C-PTSD treatment program helped me to understand and manage the depression, fear, anxiety, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Art and movement allow me to focus on hope and release pain that was stored in my body. I take responsibility in facing and letting go of the past. I focus on radical acceptance, practice honesty and gratitude. In this arduous journey I learn to forgive myself and others. Storytelling and art allow me to accept these past events without judgment. I hope my paintings bring acceptance, encouragement, hope and strength in facing life's difficulties. I choose to be grateful and focus the blessing in my life from the past, now and future.
