About the Artist
Amy Unger
As long as I can remember, I have been making something - drawing, quilting, painting, photographing. Since a head injury in October of 2016, I have been inching my way back to being creative. Last summer, 2024, I had the privilege of collaborating with another local artist on a collage. This turned out to be life-changing as I now feel this is my new medium - acrylic paint on paper that I then cut up for collage images. Collage fits in with my love of color, form, and composition. I don't have to carry anything to creatively at work. In the past, I have been awarded a Jerome Book Arts Grant, A Placemaking Grant, and 2 Arc Micro-grants. My undergraduate degree is from UW-Madison, where I studied art history, paper-making, and book arts. Before my head injury, I also taught BrainGym classes through OLLI at the U of M. I am from the Twin Cities. As the Disability activist Neil Marcus said, "Disability is an art. It's an ingenious way to live." I agree.
Location: On display at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute
