Artist Statement 2023 Kim Ladd I have struggled with mental health and addiction issues my whole life. When I start noticing the world around me and think about how I would photograph it. Whether it be a barren winter field in rural Illinois, trees that appear as graceful dancing women or a view of a rolling country road I can tell that the demons in my head are growing quiet once more. The frozen grayness is thawing and my world starts shining again. While some might not find beauty in the Illinois landscape in winter I am the opposite. The repetition of lines in the soil from farm equipment or the line of trees used as a windbreak and what happens in post-production is exciting to me. When I get home and look at my shots of the day I pick an image to start in post-production on my computer. I never know what I am going to discover that makes my images unique. I consider my work on the computer after the shoot to be as vital as my camera itself. When in the creative mode I am
