About the Artist

Maryanne Kinane

"I have always loved to paint and draw things.

I have a Bachelor's in Art Education from Moorhead State, Minnesota, and an M Art Ed, M AA from St Mary's University of Minnesota. When I found out that my chronic pain was AS (ankylosing spondylitis) many years ago, I fought back.

In the 1990s, I had remission of AS. Then, in 2003, the head-on auto collision happened. The accident broke my neck in 3 places and caused a concussion. I had partial paralysis on the right side of my body and nerves short-circuited. Then, my AS came back with a vengeance. I was devastated! I was used to fighting chronic pain, but this was more than I could handle. I turned it over to God to help me.

Many physical therapists helped me. But the hardest part was to have patience with myself.

Slowly, I regained my right side. Besides giving me the physical ability to make art again, God gave me perseverance, patience, and humility. I am reminded of God's love through painting and drawing nature."
