About the Artist
Donna Bouma
Although I spent my 20s teaching art to 5th-8th graders, it wasn't until my 40s that I began to explore my own artistic talents. Now in my late 70s, art has blossomed into a deep passion of mine. Over the years, I've illustrated two children's books, ventured into printmaking, and created numerous collages. My favorite techniques involve blending acrylics and watercolors with ink for a unique effect. In 1999, I experienced a significant challenge when I lost 50% of my field of vision on the left side in both eyes due to a stroke, a consequence of a hole in my heart. Fortunately, once the procedure to close the hole was deemed safe, I underwent surgery to install a device that corrected this issue. Despite this setback, I've learned to adapt to my vision loss and continue to create art. I am happy, thankful, and feel blessed for the ability to pursue my passion despite the challenges.
