About the Artist
Marieke Davis
Arizona native Marieke Davis, a brain cancer survivor and "visually impaired visual artist" since the age of ten, has found art to be a therapeutic passion, guiding her studies and career. A graduate of ASU with a BFA in Drawing and a 2023 graduate from the Columbus College of Art & Design with an MFA in Visual Arts, Marieke advocates for the inclusivity of art. Her graphic series, "Ember Black," has garnered attention for its accessibility, with Chapter 1 winning a Herberger IDEA Audience Choice Award and Chapter 2 being commissioned by the AZ Commission on the Arts, both available in print and audio for the visually impaired. Additionally, her autobiographical comic, "Life is Blurry," earned her a Kennedy Center VSA Emerging Young Artist award. Her MFA Thesis Project and first children’s book, "Lily, the Blind Unicorn," available in print, audio, and Braille, reflect her hope for a future of compassionate individuals. Her piece "Fearless" portrays her personal challenges and her unwavering resilience.
