About the Artist
Dawn Klug
Since age 6, art has been my compass, guiding me through a diverse journey as an illustrator, portrait painter, handweaver, and tapestry weaver. My art took flight in the US Navy, where I was commissioned to create portraits of aircraft and pilots in my squadron. Following an injury in 1980, I pivoted back to painting until 1997, when I found my passion for fiber weaving. My work in tapestry weaving integrates traditional materials like wool and cotton, alongside handspun Spanish Moss fiber, blending beauty with historical significance. Recently, I've revisited acrylic painting, finding success and encouragement to continue in both textiles and painting. At 67, despite 43 years of paralysis, my artistic journey underscores that each creation is a unique testimony to learning and expression.
