Joe Rossi
As a boy, Joe Rossi discovered a little bog on the family land at Lake Rabideau in the Chippewa National Forest. ?It was a magical place,? he recalled. Sphagnum moss crept over surfaces, creating a cool, quiet place to lie down on a hot day. Carnivorous pitcher plants and sundews digested insects. Cowslips flourished in the wetness. At Bemidji State University, he majored in journalism with a photo emphasis. Joe is now retired after a long career as a photojournalist in Minnesota, working for the Worthington Globe and then 25 years at the St. Paul Pioneer Press. After retirement, Joe and his wife Judy moved back to the land on Lake Rabideau. When Judy died of cancer in 2020, Joe threw himself into his nature photography to cope with his disabling grief. In 2022, he suffered a stroke and is slowly recovering, thanks to Courage Kenny. He stays at Mt. Olivet Careview in Minneapolis, where he creates nature slide shows for his fellow residents, many of whom rarely get outside.
Location: On display at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute
