About the Artist

Kassius Wilson

Just before my 50th birthday I picked up oil paints and canvas and created the first abstract painting that I had done since leaving painting at age 15. That initial painting was accepted in an established gallery along with another. I often joke that I put the pain in painting, as I have severe chronic spine pain that is with me 24/7. I often lay on the floor to create art. While the pain limits the amount of time spent on my work, I am not deterred. Creating art helps me deal with my physical disability and like many other artists, have dealt with depression since childhood. Two years ago I was diagnosed with a terminal illness which took the lives of the majority of my family. It is important to me to have my art recognized before I pass. Art is therapy. While I've sold across the USA, I've also donated paintings to the UK to raise money for health related charities, as well as animal charities in the US. I was born in St. Louis, Missouri and will be 60 this year.
