Dionne Swanson
“Freedom” was inspired by a vase that Dionne spotted at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. The vase has an image of a dragon flying among clouds. In her work, instead of a dragon she painted a beautiful, colorful bird flying away from an open cage. She says in her own life, she would like to experience this freedom of being independent and having control over her life. Dionne is a painter and a pastel artist. One of her favorite subjects is to paint tropical scenes from her childhood in the Virgin Islands. She is patient and meticulous in her work and particularly enjoys color mixing and creating new colors. Recently, she had a painting of musician Prince’s guitar in an exhibit called “Fandom”.
