A bowl turned from apple wood and colored epoxy
Gerald Bouma
I've harbored a love for wood throughout my life. While my career was dedicated to music education, woodworking remained a significant hobby for me. My journey with wood evolved from building our first house to crafting cabinets, creating furniture, engaging in woodturning, and even constructing my own casket last summer. It's always been fascinating to discover the hidden beauty in an old, discarded log or an unassuming piece of wood. After retiring from teaching, I organized tours around the world for music groups from across the country. However, when Guillain-Barre Syndrome severely restricted the use of my legs, I delved deeper into woodturning, experimenting with new materials, shapes, and designs. Now, I relish the opportunity to explore innovative ideas and designs at the lathe, constantly pushing the boundaries of my craft.
