Sarah Nehrbass
Sarah Grace Nehrbass is a 29 year-old, nonverbal artist with Down syndrome, hearing loss, and neurodegenerative disease. She expresses her thoughts and emotions on the canvas and the loom. As a former student at Interact Visual Arts Center, Sarah’s work has been displayed and sold in many different art showings and venues. In 2019, she was awarded a microgrant from Arc Minnesota to purchase a Saori loom and yarn to be able to continue with private weaving classes in her home. The past few years, Sarah has been busy making Woven Memory pieces out of the clothing of loved ones who have passed—gifting these special memorials to family and friends. Whenever she is at the easel or the loom, Sarah smiles and signs that she is “happy.” A creatively sensory use of color and texture is not just this artist’s interest or talent…it has become her unique voice in this world.
