About the Artist

Jay Petersen

I was born and raised on a small family farm in Southwestern Minnesota and presently reside in Tucson, Arizona, in the Southwestern United States. I live with epilepsy and post-traumatic stress disorder, stemming from abuse and assaults. Since 1977, after getting clean and sober in Minneapolis, I found painting. I am inspired by my paternal Grandmother, Alice Petersen, who lived on our farm and encouraged and stood by me throughout my life. She was an artist and nurse's aide in the small town hospital where I was born. She was and is my Angel. She helped me get clean and sober and helped bring out the good in me. Her unwavering steadfastness gave me courage, and her values continue to help me today as I do my best to use my talents in writing and painting. My painting "An Angel Named Alice" is in honor of her, Amethyst Angel with amethyst gemstone and Angels third painting is because I love Angels.
