About the Artist

Mae Piña

Mae Piña grew up in various small towns along Colorado's I-70 highway, although most of her childhood was spent in Rifle Colorado. Mae always had an interest in the arts and would even find ways to incorporate art into school assignments even when not warranted and it was this passion that led her to pursue art at the college level. Mae started college at her local community college before transferring to Colorado Mesa University where she would earn her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2022. Her college journey was certainly not the most traditional of most due to financial and medical challenges related to her health, but that never stopped her from continuing to pursue her higher education, even if it meant that it would take a little longer. Her work delves into the complexities of living chronic illnesses and uniquely reflects these complexities as they pertain to her personal experiences as someone who deals with multiple chronic illnesses like POTS, CFS, and EDS just to name a few.
