About the Artist

Staci Leech-Cornell

Staci Leech-Cornell received a BFA and MA from Marshall University in West Virginia. Her studio, Still Maybe Studios, is located in Nitro WV. She creates 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional mixed media artwork in ways that are personal, intergenerational, and poetic. Staci says this about her work: My passion to create and make art help to investigate and understand our human experience. I do this by sitting in a chair using my hands to tell stories. This is my legacy. My mother, gran, and great-grandma sat in chairs using their hands to tell stories. These symbols are woven into my identity. GG Bird is for my great grandmother. My great grandma drew a similar bird when telling stories to my gran and her siblings. Quilts are symbols of housewarming and feminine craft throughout Appalachia. Barn quilts adorn barns and other structures. Trailers were my home throughout my youth. West Virginia residents are more likely to own their own home than any other state. Trailers helps make this
