Anakin Icarus

Anakin Icarus is an Illustrator who typically creates digital illustrations that represent their emotional ties to mythology, pop culture, current events, and lived experiences. Anakin lives with chronic pain and multiple mental illnesses and expresses these things in their art in various ways, from self-portraiture to surreal compositions. Their chronic pain makes it difficult to create with traditional material, digital art on a portable drawing tablet gives Anakin the freedom to continue to create when bed-bound and needing to be gentler on their hands. In these pieces, Anakin communicates visually the inner turmoil of being disabled. From the mythological portrait of Icarus, from where Anakin finds their last name, to the in-your-face cry for justice in ?Deny, Defend, Depose?, to a personal expression of how Electroconvulsive Therapy has left them feeling adrift, to the nonsensical representation on how their anxiety manifests.
