Madeline Rapp
My name is Madeline Rapp, and I am a sophomore Art and Design undergraduate student at Louisiana State University. I have suffered from chronic pain for over ten years now, which played a large part in my introduction to the art world. I was never able to glean joy from physical activity as my peers did, largely due to limited mobility slowing me down as well as the knowledge that whatever I was doing was only going to make the pain worse the next day. I decided instead to turn to a much more low-impact hobby, which is how I ended up being the first person to ever tell my pediatrician that my main hobby was textiles. I have found great comfort in art, which has allowed me to express and outlet the pain I feel every day in a way that makes sense. Chronic pain is such a complex feeling that cannot truly be described with words. In a way, sometimes it feels as though my art is the only one able to understand.
