About the Artist
Radford Thomas
Seeing is my greatest pleasure. Painting is my response to seeing. I love beauty – and sometimes the ugly - color, paint, texture, and nature as well. My paintings are the coalescence of all these loves of mine. When I start painting I try to throw my mind into neutral in order to let the materials do their job. My intent is to have the conviction and the instruments to complete the painting in a manner that fulfills my concept of its reality. Most of my work is conceptual. As to my disability, at age 89, I find it difficult to stand or walk for long; a fall in 2016 left me with replacement knees that do not work as they should. For any length of time, I have to sit to paint. And my glaucoma has begun to damage my optic nerve. Eye drops, 4 a day, keep the pressures under control most of the time. I have a fear of not being able to see to paint very soon.
