About the Artist
Nick Freeman
I've been making photographs since high school watching my life change. I graduated from undergrad at NYU making photographs of my neighborhood in Baltimore. Walking around like Robert Frank and Garry Winogrand has been my way of dealing with the pain. I am a bipolar artist. When the highs hit, I can walk around like a madman snapping photographs of everything. When I am depressed, it is hard to just stand up from my couch I sleep on. I've been hospitalized a few times. I listen to Garry Winogrand in documentaries talking about how he doesn't want to exist. I feel it. The only time I feel full of life is with my camera in the world making images. I can be left of a desire to live but taking photographs of my daughter or just making a picture makes me forget about the world. It makes me forget about how I exist.
