About the Artist
Chris Wolf
I'm an avid nature lover and find joy spending time each day outdoors with my dog, as well as listening to literature, writing, and creating art. 2020 was a year of great change for all of us. For me, the year also marks a big transition in my life because that is when my spinal cord injury happened, a rare condition called cauda equina syndrome that impacts feeling and function below the waist. In 2022, I got Lyme disease after visiting Voyageurs National Park in northern MN. This ushered in further transformations in my life, changing everything, even my creative practice. I have neurological fatigue, so I work in small formats. I also have ocular migraines, which means I see flares of light, have difficulty with depth perception, and see tones/shapes as vibrating or oscillating at times. I've taken these experiences as inspiration for these paintings, using patterns that play with foreground/background and colors that clash to evoke tonal movement.
