About the Artist

Jord Nelsen

I am drawn to the complexity of form. The notion that the subject of my work is not a static creation, but rather a vessel of stories, dreams, aspirations, and challenges, fuels the exploration of my story telling and contemplations through visual metaphor. My work strives to reveal the rich thread of commonalities we all share. I start with a general theme with an open expectation, then I let the conversation begin between me and the piece. When I allow myself to be the conduit for the creation, I am engaged in an inspiring process of discovery. As someone living with left-sided hemiplegia as a result of a brain stem stroke, I constantly work with an uncooperative body. I have clear recollections of everyday activities that I performed with ease. Through hard work, emotional perseverance and support from family and friends, doors have opened, and I decided to forget about the real possibility of failure, and approach my art and my life with an honest sense of wonder and curiosity.
