About the Artist
Debra Westdorp
My disability began to impact my life choices at the age of 26 when I was diagnosed with RSDS in 1982. At the time, I had a physically demanding job as a home health care aide, but I had to leave that position and adjust to a new way of life as a person with a disability. Early on, I realized I was not alone and joined several support groups in hopes of creating a better life for myself and others. After undergoing several treatments and surgeries, I rediscovered how important creativity had been to me before my limitations developed. With the encouragement of my family, I began studying watercolor painting, and eventually transitioned to acrylics and resin work. I am self-taught in various creative fields, including sewing, jewelry design, and resin art, and I continually seek to learn new techniques in painting, resin work, and crafting. I love the process of creating and collaborating with other artists on projects and opportunities. I am excited to share my creative journey with the public and continue exploring new avenues for self-expression.
