About the Artist
Ja-Wen Yu
Growing up in an environment marked by neglect and abuse, I found solace in painting and imagination. It wasn't until confronting complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) as an adult, a condition that brought suicidal thoughts and a resurgence of repressed memories, that I began to understand the root of my pain. Treatment for C-PTSD, alongside managing depression, fear, anxiety, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue, taught me the power of art and movement to channel hope and release the pain embedded in my body. Embracing radical acceptance, honesty, and gratitude, I've learned to forgive myself and others, allowing storytelling and art to foster a judgment-free acceptance of my past. My paintings aim to offer acceptance, encouragement, hope, and strength to others facing life's challenges, embodying my commitment to gratitude for the blessings of my past, present, and future.
