About the Artist
Lana Oeschger
I am Lana, a mixed-media artist from Ann Arbor, Michigan. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kalamazoo College, where my two majors were Psychology and Studio Art. Currently, I am focused on themes of invisible disability and queerness, using my personal experiences to inform my creations. My style is whimsical and full of color, with strange figures and silly characters that hold my heavy experiences for me. I connect with my inner child as best as possible during my process; making my brushstrokes with warm intention, including comforting design elements, relying on intuition, and always working in multiple mediums simultaneously. I wish to challenge the mainstream art world with my work, as more personal, identity-based subject matters and cute-looking artistic styles should be taken just as seriously. Most importantly, I love to do this work because I believe this type of creation – artmaking for connection to oneself and to others – is a radical thing to do.
