Mary Vorhes
Mary Vorhes is a self‑taught artist working in photography and painting, guided by a lifelong love of nature and image‑making. She began taking photographs as a child, capturing moments with family and friends, and as her skills developed her focus naturally shifted toward the natural world. Flowers, butterflies, and birds became favorite subjects, and many of Mary’s paintings are created directly from photographs she has taken herself. Curious and eager to learn, Mary enjoys watching videos to explore new techniques, including a scraping method that helps her create vibrant, colorful surfaces. To paint fine lines with control, she braces her hand on a sponge, adapting her process with care. Nature plays a vital role in Mary’s creative life. Taking photos helps lift her spirits when she is feeling low, and painting often brings a noticeable shift in mood when she is distressed. Art has made a profound difference in her life, and she is happy to share that sense of brightness and renewal with others.
