About the Artist
Erin McDonald
I was diagnosed with RSD 17 years go. Previously, I was physically active as a kayaker and rock climber. As my mobility was limited and the intensity of my pain grew, I learned to appreciate activities as an observer. I had a Brain Injury 4 years ago, which also impacted my independence. I rely on supports from family, friends, and service providers. I began my art journey when I enrolled in Park Nicollet’s INSPIRE program for brain injury and stroke survivors. They offer a Camera Club, which teaches photography skills to the disabled. Having limited mobility, this opened up possibilities for me to participate in outdoor activities in a new way. My art influences include David Guttenfelder’s inspiring photography profiles of North Korea & MN, Aidan, my nephew, was my first photography teacher, and Aoife, my niece, was the inspiration for the Road to Wolf Lake photo. I also love photographers Gillian Laub, Beth Mancuso, and Jimmy Chin.
