About the Artist

Gene Smith

Kansas City native Gene discovered his love of art in high school. In his youth, he traveled all around North America with his mother and sister, sketching the places he visited along the way. Fast forward to today, where Gene is a dedicated artist both at his art studio and at home. His expressionist-abstract style is spoken primarily through oil paints and pastels using organic lines and shapes. Gene is drawn to color and states that he works from within, not overthinking before he puts paintbrush to canvas. From this point, he will express what he is feeling at that given moment. His work depicts portraits and scenery, but most of all emotion.
