"Roots" is an expressionistic visual image of how our unseen depths - that part of us which holds us stead - are every bit as substantive of that portion of us seen by others.

About the Artist

Melissa Milton

Melissa Milton was born in Arkansas, the youngest in a family of seven. Melissa is physically disabled from inherited medical conditions which run in her family. She has Dysautonomia (NCS & POTS subtypes) and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (vascular & hypermobiity subtypes). She is on oxygen 24/7, is limited in having outings outside the home, and creates art while lying down or sitting. After she became physically unable to continue her career in law, an art studio evolved over the years around her sofa. The artwork creation has unexpectedly grown into an enjoyable part time gig exhibiting and selling art. Melissa finds creating art very fulfilling, and would be creating art whether or not it sold. But she loves that the art sales fund the creation of even more art. In addition, her exhibit participation in galleries, museums, and gift shops has led to many wonderful friendships and the opportunity to enjoy other artists’ artwork which she’d have otherwise have never gotten to experience.
