Ivy Egger
"Ivy Egger works primarily in mixed media mosaic, incorporating pieces of cut glass, beads, mica, glitter, and anything else that adds sparkle to her art form. She has a disability that began at birth due to a rare liver disease, and her inspiration comes from her desire to cope more effectively with her illness. Beginning her mosaics with a simple acrylic or gouache painting provides a foundation for her work. Mosaics give her the opportunity to transform broken pieces of glass into a new creation. Since mosaics require a sturdy surface, she creates them on canvas or cradled wood panels. Unlike traditional mosaic techniques, Ivy uses glue to adhere beads, glass pieces, mica, and other materials to the panels, allowing them to add extra sparkle to her art. Her art practice stands in direct contrast to her rigid day job. The dreamlike quality of her work represents freedom—freedom to create without constraints—and brings a sense of hope and beauty to her audience." Website: www.vinedesignsart.com
