Spofford is a tiny town in southern New Hampshire situated on a lake of the same name. True to New England in the fall, trees blaze in brilliant colors and the sky is an immense blue. Small roads weave through picturesque small towns that appear suddenly ahead while you check out the scenery.
About the Artist
Jace Laakso
I’m a printmaker and metalwork sculptor. My print work explores landscapes and architectural elements paying attention to relationships between form, shadow, light and negative space, and how atmosphere affects a viewer’s perceptions. I am currently working in abstract mono relief prints and limited editions of reduction relief printing, a process that utilizes a single block for several individual colors. I received a BFA from the University of Montana with emphases in Printmaking and Metalwork/Sculpture. My work has been shown in Key West, FL; Spokane, WA; Big Horn, WY Minneapolis, MN; Schenectady, NY; Plymouth, MA; Bryn Mawr, PA; Missoula, MT; Billings, MT. I was born and raised in rural Northeastern Connecticut. My father was a carpenter and my mother raised chickens. I contracted polio as an infant and have worn a leg brace ever since.
