About the Artist
Delores Fortuna
I have never identified myself as an artist with disability, always choosing to let my work speak first. However, I have a special connection to CKRI. I was admitted as a baby after contacting polio in 1949. I finally walked without leg braces and crutches when I was 16 after eight orthopedic operations. I was in college when I discovered ceramics. Forming clay on the potter’s wheel gave me the ability to experience freedom of movement through my hands that I have never been able to experience through my legs.
