About the Artist
Fernando Ric?rdez
I am a 29-year-old artist and engineer from Mexico. My work transforms personal experiences into visual narratives. Living with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), I face progressive physical weakening, which gives urgency to every creation. I began painting in 2022 as a culmination of experiences that have shaped my life. My themes explore disability, dreams, autobiography, and surrealism. Each piece is a testament to my existence and an attempt to transcend even the possibility of a premature death. Painting has been a turning point, a tangible way to dialogue with the world beyond the digital screens of my childhood. Through textures, colors, and forms, I seek a direct and honest connection with viewers, inviting reflection and empathy. My work has been recognized in the XI National University Biennial of Contemporary Art (Baja California), and I won first place in the Sin Barreras International Art Contest.
Location: On display at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute
