About the Artist

Christine Severson

While working as an RN in a spinal cord injury unit, an accident occurred transferring a quadriplegic patient. He was fine, my life was permanently changed. After numerous surgeries and treatments, I am left with spinal nerve damage, chronic pain and limited mobility. Basically, I am housebound and use a wheelchair when I do go out. Creating has provided me with a way to cope with physical pain. It has also provided a solace and sense of purpose when there are so many aspects of life I cannot participate in. My days are spent in a semi-reclining position. The materials I work with need to be light weight as well as workable from my reclining position. Weaving with wire and pine needles fit my requirements. Creating allows me to view myself as an artisan rather than a patient. My hope is the recipient of my pieces feels the loving energy woven into them. I am thankful to Courage Kenny for giving artists with challenges an opportunity to exhibit their work.
