About the Artist
Cathy Pregmon
Art and the creation of art have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's I was a theatre artist - writing and directing shows and co-founding a theater company. At the time my visual disabilities - amblyopia and keratoconus - I am legally blind in my right eye - didn't limit me as much as they did later in life. When I switched mediums and became a jewelry designer my lack of visual acuity and depth perception were hindrances and made me aware of the limitations my visual disabilities presented. I am inspired by colorsg, shapes and textures as working with very small beads and fire limit my work with metals and embroidery. I am what is called a "stringer" and am intrigued by the patterns and feelings the materials can evoke and create. This year what really flummoxed me about this application was the photography. The winter light seemed to defeat me. The jewelry designs I love. The photos in my portfolio don't seem to capture my designs.
