Juniper Winn
Juniper Winn creates work rooted in a deep connection to nature and an ongoing need to understand life by looking backward even as it moves forward. Their practice seeks to decontextualize mind, body, and identity through lived experience, scattering memory across Midwest landscapes and weaving it among plants like a carefully tended garden. Drawing from personal anecdotes that are raw and surreal, Juniper works with photographs, ephemera, and life events to transform memories of the body and mind through smaller, specific identities such as hands or lungs. These fragments are then reconnected to the skies, landscapes, and plant life that shaped early life. This approach to art developed alongside a diagnosis of Chiari Malformation Type 1, a neurological condition that causes chronic pain and migraines. Despite physical challenges, Juniper’s work remains vibrant and colorful, reflecting a body fully lived in and an enduring dialogue with the natural world and the passage of time.
