About the Artist
Gwendolyn Stangel
Gwendolyn Stangel is a Minneapolis-based artist and graduate of the University of Minnesota. She is versed in knitting, needlepoint, sculpture, welding, photography, and painting. She was hospitalized for seven weeks due to a stroke she suffered last November. She is currently a client at the Courage Kenny Golden Valley clinic. She's receiving outpatient speech and occupational therapy for aphasia, apraxia, and her dominant right hand is impacted. She has completed her physical therapy program so she can once again explore her local parks and enjoy their natural beauty. She now creates photographs and collages with her left hand, and her artistic eye and expression are key to her recovery and communication with the world. Her art articulates what she cannot, as she pushes to regain her abilities.
