I created this art piece as an experiment in exploring a limited color palette to express an idea or a place. In this particular design, I used movement and layering in order to recreate the spectacular refracted waves of colors a person sees when swimming under the surface of a mountain lake.
About the Artist
Kristin Dieng
Minnesota-based artist Kristin Dieng has been developing her skills as a glass artist for the last decade. When a chronic illness forced Kristin to leave a previous career, Kristin sought out a new way of interacting with the world and found mosaic art. Kristin’s art explores the way in which light-filled art can serve as a source of healing. While she specializes in brightly colored nature-themed work and complex geometric patterns, Kristin finds particular joy in creating artwork that is interactive with both its viewer and its environment. Kristin is known for challenging people’s expectations about what constitutes stained glass art, experimenting with out-of-the-box techniques such as layering glass and incorporating unexpected mixed media materials into her designs. Kristin’s work has been exhibited in galleries throughout MN and WI, and she exhibited her first solo gallery show at the Phipps Center for the Arts in 2021.
