Debra Westdorp
Debra Westdorp’s artistic journey is rooted in resilience, lifelong learning, and a rediscovery of creativity shaped by change. At the age of twenty‑six, Debra was diagnosed with reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome in 1982, a condition that forced her to step away from a physically demanding role as a home health care aide and reimagine daily life with disability. Through treatments and surgeries, Debra was reminded of how essential creativity had been before physical limitations emerged. With encouragement from family, she began studying watercolor painting and later expanded into acrylics and resin work. Largely self‑taught, Debra also works across sewing, jewelry design, and other creative practices, continually exploring new techniques and materials. Art offers purpose, curiosity, and connection, as well as collaboration with other artists. Creating remains central to Debra’s life, transforming adaptation into ongoing growth, expression, and community.
