John Riddle
John Riddle is a painter whose work reflects recovery, observation, and a growing awareness of the world’s impact on both people and environments. After sustaining an anoxic brain injury in 2010, John’s recovery included rebuilding daily rhythms and discovering visual art as a meaningful way to process experience and perspective. Painting became a space to explore ideas that felt urgent and external as well as personal. A poured acrylic work created during the COVID pandemic captures this focus, using abstraction to examine environmental tension and disruption. Through flowing color and contrast, the painting illustrates the encroachment of pollution into a once pristine space, echoing broader concerns about industrial impact and fragile balance. John’s work invites viewers to consider change, responsibility, and resilience, using abstraction not as distance, but as a way to make complex realities visible and felt.
