About the Artist
Emily Tironi
Emily Tironi?s work is a celebration of the disabled experience and the disabled body. As a mixed media collage artist with a disability based in Saratoga Springs, NY, Emily often uses surrealism, bright colors, and humor to challenge societal norms and stereotypes regarding disability. She believes it is important to bring this perspective to the general public and uses her experience as a disabled person and knowledge of disability studies to inform and enhance her art. Emily works with a variety of materials, including gel prints, mulberry paper, books, and magazine images. By creating contrast through these diverse mediums, she unites her work through color and layering. The process of combining different elements to form a new whole strengthens the messages within each piece. In 2022, Emily was featured in the publication Inside Their Studio: Deaf & Disabled Artists Reshaping the Arts. She had her fourth solo show in May 2024 and continues to regularly create and exhibit her work.
