About the Artist
Wood's style has evolved from a goal of capturing the essence of his subject with painterly strokes and without being literal. This has led to numerous amalgams of finishes that combine bravura brushstrokes and knife-strokes with dynamic movement through the picture plane. His current push is to maximize the notan structure of his pieces and create strong composition that play between photorealistic, impressionistic, and abstract. His subjects seem to materialize out of the ether or melt into the canvas creating space on the 2-D surface. Wood derives inspiration from his time fishing in his native Canada and surrogate Texas. He spends 40 days in the summer navigating the waterways of Texas. You will most often find him between the headwaters and Prairie Lea on the San Marcos River. He teaches drawing and painting in Central Texas and relishes sharing his knowledge and love of art with his students.
