About the Artist
Delora Fiers
Sculpture has always interested me. When I discovered I could cast handmade paper pulp on a mold to create a sculptural form, my love affair with handmade paper began. I create containers and images using handmade paper pulp as my primary medium. Recently, I?ve merged my custom picture-framing skills with cast paper pulp to create images in shadow boxes. For me, art-making means acting responsibly toward the earth?s resources. The process I use to make handmade paper has a negligible impact on the environment. I make paper pulp from renewable sources such as Cattail and Iris leaves and by recycling acid free post-consumer paper. I incorporate natural, found, and repurposed items in my art. My artistic intent is to demonstrate the need for balance in all things. My art reflects nature, and I marvel at its reciprocal coexistence. The natural world suggests a path we can follow to build harmonious human communities. Making art brings joy and balance to my life.
