About the Artist
Jazlyne Sabree Wooden
Jazlyne Sabree is an interdisciplinary artist based in Philadelphia, PA. She is best known for her mixed media portraits that address the endangered state of the people of the African diaspora by symbolically swapping their skins with the animals of the continent who are also endangered. She juxtaposes this state of endangeredness with the chosen postures of surrender, generational love, joy, and hope for the future. She is inspired by her culture, her family, and her ancestral history. Jazlyne Sabree was diagnosed with lupus in 2018 and has been very active as an advocate in the Lupus Community to the extent of serving as a Lupus Ambassador for The Lupus Foundation of America Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter. This condition has disabled her from working full time as an art teacher and has pushed her to fully focus on her art business while also completing art school for her Masters in Fine Art at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art.
